I've been looking for answer to this for a while now. Basically I have a old Compaq on which I installed AVG and since then it does not want to boot.
When I start up it just stops at a black screen, blinking cursor, and stays there for ever.
My first idea was to re-install windows using a USB with windows 7 on it. I can get to the boot menu and select the USB stick (also I put it as first to boot in the options) but it does not want to boot from the USB. I am certain the USB is bootable because I have used it to re-install windows in other computers...
Sounds like a hardware failure. Possibly the harddrive will still be reading as ok at boot but is locking up the system at the second spin-up. Try unplugging the harddrive and testing to see if it will progress further.
Hi I have a similar issue blank screen after Press any key to boot from CD .
I am able to press f2 and go to bios
Also able to f12 and go to boot option
But on f8 instead of landing on safe mode menu I am landed on Windows Boot Manager, which says windows failed to start A recent hardware or software change may be the cause . And at the bottom there is Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible . This page appear even if I boot normally . In short I am not able to boot normally or from live CDs , Is my system dead??
