Adding more fans to my rig

Hello!

I recently went SLI with my GTX 670 FTW's and want to add some fans to help keep the system cooler. I have 2x200mm fan's on the top and a 1x140mm fan on the back for exhaust. 1x200mm fan on the front and 1x200mm fan on the side for intake. I wanted to add maybe 2-3 more fans (possibly two on the right of the GPU's (cable tied to the HD cage) and one on the bottom next to the PSU). Possibly also add a fan controller as well. Is this irrational? Would I see a difference?

If I decided to do this, would a 750w PSU be enough to handle this or should I upgrade? Thanks in advance!

Yeah adding a 750w should be enough power for both cards. As for the temperatures, this may seem obvious, but also take into account the ambient temperature. No matter how many fans you have blowing on your GPU's, if the ambient temperature is warm or hot, it won't make much of a difference.

I think what you have now is pretty good, just keep in mind the more negative air flow (exhaust) the more dust will build up.

Do you know the temperatures of your current card (idle and high/gaming)?

They'll idle around 32-36c and playing Metro 2033 can go up to 68-69c. I just want to make sure they don't hit 70c so they don't get throttled down. The thing is it's cool right now where I'm from, but can get pretty hot in the summer. I know I should probably look into water cooling my rig, but I'm honestly scared to death to try.

GPU's can run very hot and even more so than CPU's. Processors tend to max out anywhere from 60-85c. Video cards can max from 90-120c. I think your temperatures are safe, even if it hits 70c I think you're still in the "cool" zone.

Are you overclocking your card?

Yeah 90c is a little hot for continual operating temp. BUT GPU's have a max temp of 120c (although not operating). If you go above 90c-100c your card will downclock for sure. For gaming it's not too bad and by the time your card dies (even well before your card dies) you will probably purchase another one.

Do you think the extra fans will help? And if so the 750w PSU wouldn't be enough for the extra fans+controller?

I'm hoping these cards can last me until the Maxwell architecture comes out. I just want to make sure they are completely healthy until then. I live in Buffalo, so the summers can get pretty hot, but I won't have to worry about the Fall/Winter/Spring. I guess I'm just overthinking it?

I know of people and read other experiences of cards in the 90c for 3-5 years with no problem. I think you're okay... once you start seeing artifacting then that's when you should look into your temps (but not all artifacting is produced from graphics card, could be in-game glitches).

Geez, I get nauseous when it hits 70c, I can't imagine playing at 90c! I guess I don't have to buy the extra fans then. Nothing I can do about ambient temps anyway.
