Hi all, my wi-fi has been acting up lately and was just wondering what things can interfere with it, I know wireless phones that operate at the same frequency can, but my dad seems to think fluorescent lights can as well (as we have a few). Anybody know about this?

Thanks

Solution

Flourescent lights can but they need to be close to the broadcast point and there has to be a lot of them. Any metal structure or body of water can soak wireless signals. Emergency-band radio traffic will also interfere. I live next to a fire-station and neighborhood watch HQ and I can barely get decent FM radio or cell signal. My wireless router is only good for about 50ft.

big aquariums, large mirrors, some building materials like foil backed plasterboard--called sheetrock in some countries

wireless baby monitors
