I am trying to set up my Sapphire 7970 card to a dual monitor set up.

I am using an old acer X233H monitor for the second monitor.
I am trying to connect this monitor up using the DVI-D port with a DVD-D to VGA adapter that then connects to the VGA port on the monitor.

When I connect them both up the Acer doesn't receive a signal.

Am I doing something wrong?
Is it even possible to do what I am trying?

I know enough about computers to get me by but I don't know alot about specifics.

Can anyone offer advice on my current predicament?

I'm using Displayport to HDMI adapter for my main.

I'm looking to create a 3 monitor set up if everything goes well. I plan on using a straight VGA to VGA for the 3rd monitor.

If I can't get this to work I'll settle for dual monitors. I just want to try this in the hopes it works out.

Since what I had planned won't work, I have another question:

Would DVI-D to HDMI give me signal into a HDMI port on a TV?(Assuming what I read in this thread it is possible but I just want to make sure)

I have plans for the the other DVI port for the 3rd monitor which is a TV. The TV won't accept HDMI from any computer or else I would just use that. After a while the screen goes blue and pink if it's hooked up to a computer through HDMI.

If that didn't happen I'd have solved all my problems a long time ago.

If you have a DVI-D video port on your PC and want to connect an analog VGA monitor you will need an active DVI-D to VGA converter. If you have a VGA port of your PC and want to connect a DVI-D monitor you will need a VGA to DVI-D converter. Please note cheap adapters and cables don't do digital to analog video signal conversion and vice-versa. You will need an active video converter. I would recommend checking KVMSwitchTech as they offer a wide range of video signal conversion products.
