Hi,

I recently purchased a GTX 780 EVGA 3GB model for use with a rig running a DX58SO Mobo (i7 980 CPU). The card makes the computer beep twice over a period of about 40 seconds to one minute, then beep twice quickly, then go to a black screen. (The previous card in the machine was a 580) I don't think it gets past or to POST, as even though the BIOS splash displays initially, if I press F2 nothing happens. The bottom of the display throughout normal booting shows number/letter combinations, and it is stuck at 5A now. I don't know what the first two beeps mean, but from my understanding the last two beeps are when a video card isn't recognized?

The card works perfectly fine in another machine (different Mobo), so I know it's not faulty.

Is the GPU compatible with the DX58SO? Everything looks like it should be. What would you recommend trying to get this to work? I'm stumped. I've tried everything I can think of, including updating to the latest BIOS, reseating the card, and various power adapters to the card. The power supply is 1000+ watts so it should be fine, as nothing in the machine is overclocked. I think I should also probably mention that the card does light up normally and the fan spins.

Thanks so much!

Forgot to mention what that message means, sorry. 5A means "Resetting PATA/SATA bus and all devices." I don't see why that would relate. I'll also mention if I throw my old 580 back in, everything works just fine.

I contacted EVGA support and they said it was something to do with the vBIOS. They are going to see if they can recreate the problem and send me a new vBIOS to flash to the card by mid next week.

Thanks for your help though!

Really? Do you have any idea where one could download an updated vBIOS for the card? This is my first EVGA product.

Thanks!

@ BigMack70: It seems like there's more than one mobo having problems with the 780/Titan from Intel. I hope they fix this, take a look at this pretty new thread http://communities.intel.com/message/195996#195996

@ matto17secs: I can't even get to POST, but you are right I should be running the latest Mobo drivers.

UPDATE: Bad news. I contacted Intel and they said they have no plans for updating the BIOS on the cards mentioned in that post.

UPDATE 2: Good news. An EVGA product manager told me, "There is a new BIOS in the works that should fix this compatibility issue. (GPU BIOS) " And when I asked when it would be released he said, "Looks like we just got it. Stay tuned... " I will provide a link here once it is posted.
