okay i got a system but i wasn't sure which gpu card to get for replacement. right now i have a hd 7770. i want it for gaming so that my system can run upcoming games of 2013. they might change with all the new ps and xbox yea so and i want to be able to play in hd.

If you are already running a 7770, then you'll prolly need to spend upwards of around 250 dollars to get a card that will be a noticeable improvement over that one. Could spend less, but then you really aren't getting much of an upgrade. Like others have posted, list off the other specs of your system so we can maybe find a better place to put your money that might make more sense for an upgrade.

cpu- i5 3550 3.3 ghz
motherboard- z77 extreme6
ram- 4 gb corsair <getting another 4 soon>
cooling- 5 fans, 4 120mm fans, cooler master and one 200mm fan
case- haf 912
hdd- 500gb wd
psu- corsair 450w
os- windows 8

Your system can support most reasonable GPUs (the highest-end cards would be too much for your PSU, but that's likely not an issue), thus the only question is budget.

Edit for clarity: I should note that BigMack and I are saying essentially the same thing: your PSU won't support the top three or four tiers of GPU, but will support most single graphics cards.

say $200- <around>
and how are the gpu cards classified

With that budget you are looking at around a 660 or 7870, maybe a 650 ti boost. I'd also toss out there buying another 7770 and going crossfire. Even a 450w Psu should be able to push both those cards, since I'm showing under 375w with everything added in for wattage usage with two 7770's. Eventually you'll want to upgrade the Psu regardless though.

With a budge of 200, you could actually do both.

You would be looking at, as Swordkd said, a 660 or a 7870, or a 660 Ti/7870 XT if you pushed the budget a bit higher.
I have no idea what you mean about GPU classification, I'm afraid. Are you asking what the card numbers indicate?

I edited my last post ("Never mind what I was going to say...") because I was posting the hierarchy chart that BigMack70 has already posted. I am slow with these things.

Actually, this is what you do. You sell off your 7770, probably netting at least 80 dollars. You spring for a 7870xt, and a decent 550+ Psu. Corsair is a decent buy and you can usually find one for around 50 dollars after sales and MiR's. While you are waiting for for your parts to come in, you use the i5's onboard video so you at least have a functioning Pc.
