I already own a bitfenix prodigy case

Hello everyone, I am making a cheap gaming PC for a friend that I know might end up being a little over 600$ but the closest to that number the better. Just to mention this PC will not be upgraded at all since my friend cannot afford it.

Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor 184.17$
or
Intel Core i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor 119.02$

I asked in another place and someone told me the i3 would bottleneck the GPU is that true?

In case I do need the Intel i5 is there any other cheaper motherboard I can buy?
like a Foxconn H61S for only 49.99$ but it said it needs a bios update to support ivy bridge cpu and I don't really want to take a big risk with that.

Any help will be appreciated :)

I take it you won't need an OS, monitor, keyboard or mouse.

If so:

Would probably suit him very well.

The GPU is very good, there's an optimum amount of RAM, good enough HDD storage

and a pretty fast CPU. Generally the i5 would be better than the i3, but it depends on what

he's wanting to play. This build would play battlefield 3 on ultra. Oh and there's always a little

bottlenecking, people say ^^. The i3 is good, but it might be a little bottleneck at least.

Oh and this is cheaper than yours <3

Here's another option using an AMD processor if your friend is okay with that. Brought the price down just under $600 after rebates.

If you need a dvd drive, it'll be like ~$20 more. I'm also assuming your friend doesn't need an OS, monitor, keyboard, or mouse.

The above build is good, only it's a really weak power supply, at a fairly high price. For an FX + 7870 XT esp (both known to be really power hungry), I'd go for a 500W unit at least, like this XFX 550W Power Supply. It's only $5 more, and much better quality/power.

Otherwise yeah, I think AMD would be better at this budget, if your friend doesn't mind.

Thank you for the replies guys I really like your build fudoka711 but I am bit corcerned about the mobo it is a micro atx right? will that fit in a mini itx case or will I have to do some modding?
