Hi guys, Hopefully this should be really easy for you to answer for me.
Work are providing us homeworkers with a seperate VPN router, which will be plugged into my exsisting home router. They have asked for the router model, username and password etc of my home router. They said that this info was needed so that they could programme it into the work VPN router so that is able to pass through the home router. My question is this, whilst I know that while I am connected to the work router which is connected to the work server through the day they will be able to monitor internet access etc, once I unplug the VPN router after work, would they still have access to my internet traffic, emails etc? I connect to work at the moment on a seperate work PC via a cable and surf, email etc, wirelessley via a laptop. My laptop is firewalled, but could they do any snooping with the information I have given them for my router, once the VPN is unplugged?. Forgive me, I am new to VPNs and work connections. Thank-you in advance for your help.

Technically, yes. But highly doubt it. If the VPN is always on, or always connected, can you surf any website or do you get blocked? If you get blocked, they're monitoring all of your network traffic. If you disconnect the VPN and are able to surf other websites that were previously blocked, they're not monitoring you.

You could ask if you could change your own router's password after they're done configuring it. Most likely they want to get the MAC address, IP Address, and settings configured to work with their VPN router. I would imagine they wouldn't have any issue allowing you to change it.. but in the event of an issue you may need to hand over the password to allow them to troubleshoot.

Hi! Thank-you for your help.
It is not installed as yet, but they have already stated that they will be monitoing. My question is, can they monitor my connection with the information that I have already provided them with, once I unplug the VPN? Surely, they can only technically monitor whilst I am connected to them through their VPN. or, do they have enough info to remotely monitor me without being connected via the VPN?
