So I've been running 9800gtx's now for almost a decade. Had to replace dead cards, but kept the same model.
I run games like SC2, Diablo3, Civilization, and such on either the highest settings or just under the highest now. I believe Starcraft2 had a few settings that were not the highest, which is the first time I've noticed the age of this card. Still looks great, but until that time everything else ran on high.

I don't do much FPS type, never played Crysis, etc.

So with my new build, I am trying to decide between the GTX 650 Ti and 660 Ti.
The price difference is about $200 ($120 and $280 respectively).

I read up on them, and the 660 Ti does seem to be quite a bit superior. However, it's an extra $160.

For the game types I play, right before I put down all that money, I started wondering if the cheaper card would in fact work well for me. I want my games to run fast, and on high settings (although if a game isn't at pure max settings it doesn't upset me, long as it looks good). Also, since I'm so used to the 9800, which is old but still has good graphics, if the 650 Ti is a large step up from the 9800 then it should run all my games amazingly well.

Any thoughts? Not having a 650, or any card past the old 9800, I have no way to really compare to see how things would run.

Thanks for any help or thoughts. I'm leaning towards the 650, but want to make sure that wouldn't be a mistake.

I think you should get the 650 Ti Boost. It's one of the best value for the money cards

and it won't actually murder your wallet with a sharp PCB. It can run BF3 on ultra at 70FPS

I believe, for examples sake. So while the 660 is better and the Ti version possibly a little moreso,

you sound happy enough with High to Medium settings.

I wouldn't go below a GTX 650 Ti Boost. The GTX 650 Ti is really a budget card with budget performance.

The GTX 660 Ti is a big step up from the 650 Ti Boost, but with your games list, it seems unnecessary. You could consider the GTX 660 as a compromise, which comes with a free copy of Metro Last Light (the GTX 650 Ti Boost does not).

I aggree with the other poster if you were pretty happy with your ol' 9800GT I would go with the 650 ti boost, it really a great value just make sure its the boost version and not the normal 650 ti. I think the boost is running around 150-70 so its a little more than the normal 650ti but worth it.

I would avoid 1GB cards if you possibly can. They are becoming a limiting factor in the latest games. You shouldn't have any problem finding a good 2GB card.

Not really, unless as I believe I said, you're rendering large images or using

more than one monitor.

Yes for you needs 1gig is fine however if the price difference it like $20 I think it worth the upgrade to 2 gigs but that being said again if you looking for a card that will last up 5 years + I would go with 2gigs to be safe.

I would get a GTX660 or a Radeon 7858/7870. Those cards are around $200 each on Newegg and would more than plenty for running your games. Preferably the 660 since I hear that they have better performance on SC2. No point on blowing all the extra $ on a 660ti based on the games that you play. Any of the above mentioned cards should be able to run your games @max with 60fps
