Will a 4 pin to 8 pin adaptor provide enough juice?

I built my computer a few days ago, and sadly the PSU is bad. I'm using another one atm that has only a 4 pin connector, and I was wondering if a 4 pin female, + molex to 8 pin would be the same amount of power as if it was normally 8 pin.

Hi

Most medium power motherboards will work with a ATX 4pin plug into the 8 pin ATX socket
It also depend on what CPU you are using (what is its maximum power rating).

Without more info on motherboard and exact CPU model GPU and PSU I can't be more precise about risks

PSU is 500w, CPU is 3570k (haven't had a chance to OC yet, will when can afford new PSU) And mobo is MSI 77a-g45
