This has happened for about 6 months (since i very first built my pc)

When plugging the USB into my pc it just makes a horrible ruffling sound when nothing is running etc...

I have purchased a sound card. No luck. Purchased a USB Hub, No luck.

I needed some improvements with my pc so i purchased a new mobo, and cpu, and those didnt make it sound any different.

So what i have been doing to use my headset, is plugging it into my laptop and then putting my laptop on top of my pc, then put the audio cable into my pc and it has been fine. This is all well and good, but i have now ran out of power sockets.

Can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks

Hey matt, erm the older mobo i had was a usb 2.0

I have tried using the case usb's and the motherboards.

Where would i get an updated usb drivers? I checked the headset manufacture (Tritton), and they don't have any.

EDIT: I looked at device manager and seen that there were no changes when i plugged in the usb device.

EDIT: MY PC specs are -

Sapphire HD 7770 OC
i5 3570k - 3.4 Ghz (Not overclocked)
500w Power supply
asus P8Z77-VLX - Motherboard

Could it be that my power supply is not powering my system enough?

Your powersupply was actually my first thought (since you already swapped motherboards and your headset works fine powered from another computer. It's just updating drivers is a lot cheaper than updating power supplies ;)

Anyway looking at ASUS's support page I see they only have USB updates for 3.0 However I only looked up Windows 7 64 bit. So if you have a different OS you could check for 2.0 drivers on their website. The link is http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z77V_LX/#support_Download

Other than that, I would definitely suspect your powersupply next. Do you have another from a different PC you could test it with?

I don't i'm afraid, but it works with my xbox?

I checked on the asus website a few months back and downloaded all these new drivers, it didnt help. :/

So do you think the power supply could be the issue then mate?

Yeah, its a coolermaster. I think its 550, not 500 but not much difference.

I'll wait for a little while so i can get funds to buy a new one. Might reply to this when i get a new one, if i remember. Thanks for your help Matt. :)

No problem Welsh. Yea if you think to, let me know if that fixes the problem. You definitely want to get a quality brand PSU, such as Corsair, or Seasonic. At the very least, make sure it's an "80 PLUS" efficient PSU.

Best of luck.
