Recently my router has been acting up so I had one in storage which is the Belkin N F5D8236-4 v3 Wireless router and I have DSL High Speed internet by Century Link. I was wondering if I can use this router so I don't have to spend more money getting a new router. They said I can get one as long as it supports DSL but I am not sure if it does. No, I do not have a modem that we use for our internet.

Thanks.

Solution
Belkin routers absolutely suck on all aspects. I have had problems with every Belkin Damn router I have ever used or helped friends configure. Just go buy a cheap 40 dollar linksys e3000 and be done with the hassle. that will work with any internet service you have. just make sure you have the correct cable modem or DSL modem for your connection.

Um the box that your using to get internet is either a 2 in one modem/router, or is just simply modem of some form. If its a 2 in 1 your going to need to disable DHCP before connecting the belkin router or you will have I.P conflicts. It should be fine though i really dont like belkin for routers they make some pretty craptacular products

I believe it's a modem/router in one, by Qwest (came with the Century Link internet). The Belkin one is just a router I believe. I also have a 2-Wire modem/router 2-in-one in storage I got from my AT&T internet.

Yeah dont use the other 2 in one by at&t. Do you know how to access your router by entering the default gateway? This allows you to change router settings which you are going to have to do if you want your belkin router to work without conflicts

Yes, you type the default gateway into the browser and go from there. I don't know where exactly to go or what to change though. Also, will I be able to just use the router by itself then if I do what you're saying since it's DSL internet and a router, no modem?

You will have to connect the belkin router to the 2 in 1 already in use in order to use it as you need modem functionality. When you disable DHCP on your 2 in one it basically makes it just a modem so your belkin can do the DHCP service and handle out I.P adresses. Im not sure what options exactly are displayed in your 2 in 1 but look for DHCP and disable it. Once its disabled then connect your belkin to the 2 in 1 using a ethernet cable

The 2 in one's functionality is failing hence why I am looking to get a new router/modem.

Thank you for this.

How is just buying a new router the answer you asked if you could use your router with your current setup and even if you buy a new router you're going to have to disable dhcp on your current 2 in 1 or purchase a new compatible dsl modem to go with your new router

yeah but obviously you don't know anything about acquiring new businesses. because if you did you would know that linksys still manufactures their own routers the same way they were before only they have new management. most of the problems with belkin weren't hardware related anyways it was always the firmware they put on the router. best cheapest router is a linksys router with ddwrt on it.
