Going through most of the "standard 'no video output' checklist" (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems) hasn't resolved the concern detailed here: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1687977/built-unresponsive-monitor.html

I just noticed that my monitor's VGA cable was plugged directly into my previous tower's video card, but the new tower's MSI Radeon HD 7770 (Ghz) card doesn't have a VGA port; during assembly, I'd been using the matching port on the MSI Z77A-G41 motherboard. The board's "integrated graphics" feature and its relation to separate cards is still new to me. When a video card is present, is that what needs to be connected to the monitor?

yes....the GPU's VGA port needs to be connected to the monitor...in case it doesnt have a VGA port get a DVI to VGA Adapter or ceck if one was included in the GPU packaging
