Hi all last week I got myself 2 x FX-8350's So I put one in the computer at work... without any problems. That night I went home put it in the system at home, once installed the cpu I put my "Thermalright Silver Arrow CPU Cooler" back on turned on the power at the wall, hit the power button all the fans started up looked promising but nothing came up on the screen, about 5 minutes of this then it just shut down, I tried a few more times with the same results.
Today I brought the computer into work I have tried;

Different Monitor (Which is working in another computer as we speak)
I put the old cpu in it (Which is working in another computer as we speak)
Different Graphics Card (Which is working in another computer as we speak)
Different Hard Drive (Which is working in another computer as we speak)
Reset CMOS

So I figured because the power supply is powering everything (or seems to be) it SHOULD not be that, so i am thinking it must be the motherboard....

that's my theory anyway, so I thought before I rush off and buy another one I better ask for some other ideas.

Thanks for your time/ideas.

Before you did the CPU swap did you check the mb bios rev to see if the mb needed to be flashed to run the new CPU and dd you check the mb vendor CPU qal list for that mb. If the mb or CMOS was not right the mb may be stuck in reset. Try clearing the CMOS. some asus mb have a USB bios flashback port. You can flash the mb bios without ram or a CPU. Just need standby power.

Oh yes sorry I have tried to reset CMOS there is a button on the back of the mobo for it should of put that in there I will edit now.

as for the rest of it ummmmmmmm......... im about to go google what all that means lol

Might be depending on when that list was updated. I would try to update the mb bios and see if it posts. On the mb there a serial number label asus puts the mb bios rev under or on the end of that label. Your mb has the USB flashback. All you need do is download the newest bios and expand it onto a USB stick. On the back of the mb is a port that marked. Put the USB stick into the port and press the USB flash back button. There few google videos on how to do it.

ok so I have flashed the bios, now when I turn the computer on instead of the fans and everything going at 100 miles an hour as if i was starting the computer in its "overdrive" mode, now all the fans are just idling. So something has happened but still no picture on the screen

well after some research asus supports a beta for the 8120 fx cpu your motherboard may be end of life meaning ELO time to sale it on ebay or where ever and think about getting a 990fx motherboard that will fully support your new chip from what I am seeing Hope and wish you luck on this matter . Just a side note I looked up a biostar board 990fxe it will support your chip . Hers a link for a asrock

im thinking about getting another 990FXA-UD3 motherboard just been looking online but I cant find a compatibility list will that board take the current ram i have

G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9Q-16GBBXL DDR3 4X4GB

You know I HAVE THE 990 FX BIOSTAR WITH A 6100 and guess what 32 megs of ram to boot they don't even support my g skill 1866 mem at that amount of ram so its try and see if it works they just got a few profiles there on ram not all of them if so there be pages after pages of what ram does work. and as far I am concerned I never had any g skill not work for me weather its be a box or laptop. I stand by them.
