Remote Desktop 7.0 on XP

For all general purposes, I have 2 of the exact same PC. Both run XP Pro w/ SP3 and both have the latest Remote Desktop (updated them with KB969084). I connected both computers to the same router with hard wires (only LAN, not WAN and no wireless) and then tried to connect each to the other. Nothing happens. I get the 1/2/3 list of troubleshooting, but have done all of that. I have remote access enabled in the system properties. I have done this with many computers and never had a problem. The whole point of this is I need to take a laptop to another location so it can monitor the desktop while I make some adjustments to the connected machine. But I can't get anything to connect to it, not even another of the same computer. Oh, and they have general ip address of 192.168.1.100 and 101 Any help? Thanks
