I attempted to upgrade from a 6770 to a 7950, both XFX brand.

I already had the latest non beta driver installed, but after I physically installed the 7950 I reinstalled the driver anyway. 13-4_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe

I then went to play one of my usual games but did not experience any performance gain at all.

I attempted to uninstall my drivers catalyst etc, even used Driver Fusion to remove any lingering dlls, rebooted etc.

Reinstalled drivers and when I attempt to change resolution, under advanced properties, it just showed Microsoft Basic Display Driver.

And when I open CCC, there isn't any display options... as if a card is not installed. From here I try to download and install the latest beta drivers (AMD_Catalyst_13.5_CAP1.05212013.exe) but same thing.

WTF right? So thinking maybe the card was just DOA.

I took out the new card and reinstalled my old one and I'm getting the same issue. It's like the driver never installed.

Super frustrated here, any tips much appreciated. I already RMA'd the card (from amazon). But if I can get it to work and actually notice performance gains, via bench mark and in game fps etc I'd like to keep it.

Thanks in advance!

Go control panel and uninstall your driver or go to device manager and uninstall it. Since you cant install the driver , do you have a laptop ? install in the laptop and copy to a pendrive transfer to your pc .
