hi all, i upgraded yesterday my cpu from e3200 to a q6600, while idle the cpu is at 40~45c and when im browsing on the internet is around 50~55. i tested prime95 and the temps were close to 70c, so I turned off the pc. before i changed the cpu i cleaned up the cpu heatsink and the cpu with 70% alcohol and i applied some thermal paste. I should put more? with the e3200 i had 27~35c with idle and 40c max 55c on full load lol
here are my specs maybe the psu is not enough?
acer m3802
intel celeron e3200 upgraded to q6600
4gb ddr2 800mhz ram
intel gma x4500
320 gb hdd 5400 rmp
acer g43-t mobo
250w psu

70C is still very fine for a load temp under a synthetic benchmark. I'd rerun a stress test, possibly using OCCT as it'll automatically stop when the CPU reaches a temperature (which you can set yourself, I'd set it to between 85-90), and see how high it gets.

The really low temps of the celeron compared to the C2Q are due to the celeron having a tdp or 65W and the C2Q having a TDP or 105W.

70c is fine.
I suspect the e3200 runs at a much lower voltage / wattage to the Q6600 so it's bound to be much cooler.
You could probably drop your q6600 to 1.25 volts, I used to do this on mine, it remained stable and was slightly cooler.

I am having the same issue when idle it is about 37 Celsius and when I play games it goes for about 62-71 Celsius. Maybe I didnt apply the thermal paste right plus it was a generic paste. Which thermal paste did you use?
