Yo! I am having an issue with a new build not posting. My PC building knowledge is intermediate at best, I built my last system no problems but that was over 5 years ago so I figured it was time for an upgrade. I gathered all the pieces I needed and got down to business. Specs are below. I put it all together without any issues and fired it up and there was no video. The power supply fires up fine and the hard drive starts spinning. I triple checked everything and used http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems and confirmed all was assembled properly. Still no video/post. I have a few ideas of what the issue is, but wanted to post here before I try anything to see if anyone has experience with the components I'm using. I unhooked all components and tried booting with just the CPU and I got 3 long beeps. Then I tried booting with the CPU and the RAM and got 5 short beeps. I tested just one stick of RAM in all 4 slots and got the same 5 short beeps. Does this indicate the RAM is faulty or not compatible? Would I get a different beep code if the CPU was faulty? I'm thinking of just getting the cheapest stick of DDR3 I can find and testing it. Something else I'm wondering is if the CPU cooler is working, it's a liquid cooling system so it's hard to tell if it's "spinning up". I made sure it was connected to the CPU fan input. Is there a way to tell? I tried feeling it after powering up but I've never had a liquid cooler before so I wasn't sure. Another possibility I think is the CPU/Mobo compatibility. I checked ASRock website and it says the mobo supports this CPU with BIOS version 1.30. I have no idea what BIOS the mobo I have shipped with. Is there a way to tell? I'm not even sure it would make a difference because BIOS 1.30 was released in June 2012 so it would be hard to imagine the board I bought last month has an older BIOS. If it is just the BIOS needing to be updated I may run into another issue. I am switching from Intel to AMD, so I have a few Intel processors laying around but I don't have any Socket AM3 processors. Is there a way to update the BIOS with the system unable to post? Maybe with USB? If not my only option is to buy a cheap AM3 processor that is compatible with my board out of the box in order to update the BIOS. The video card shouldn't be the issue b/c it was taken out of my last system which was working fine. I'm planning on upgrading at a later date. Sorry for the lengthy post. I am open to any suggestions and I appreciate any help you guys can provide. Thanks!

Take out the mobo battery.
Unplug the power cord.
Press the power button several times.
Plug the power cord back in but not the battery.
Try to power on without battery.

It's worked for me a couple of times, a long shot...

i followed the steps and still no post and no video. one thing did change, now i don't get any beeps with the memory in the system. i still get 3 longs beeps with just the cpu and heatsink hooked up.
