I just bought the SSD in the title (edit: I meant Samsung 840 Pro), and while there was a big improvement on my rig, I would like to ask the community about possible tweaks that could help speed up my SSD. It is at 406/250 mbps read/write, which is a bit lower than I expected. Any suggestions?

I have it plugged into the marvell ports since it was labeled 6g's per sec. I have been reading some threads stating that I should use the intel ones, but I think mine run at 3g's per sec.

The X58 chipset only supports SATA 3Gbps ports, so Asus added a Marvell controller for Sata 6Gbps. Unfortunately that's not nearly as good as native (chipset-based) SATA 6Gbps, so performance is being held back somewhat. There is no easy fix for that.

You could check whether the drive is set to AHCI mode in BIOS. That'll give the optimal performance under the circumstances. If it's in IDE mode, you'll have to either reinstall Windows after switching to AHCI, or apply a registry hack. Otherwise it'll feed you a steady stream of BSODs.

This is a better answer then i would have given.
