EVGA "Step-Up" to Reference 770 from 670?

Hey guys. As from the EVGA website, the Step-Up program allows only an upgrade to the reference model of the card. This being the case, should I still upgrade to their reference 770 card from my 670 FTW Sig 2?

My guess is that you would benefit.
The stock GTX770 should be a better card, and the blower type cooler will keep your case cooler. Self overclocking is an option.

But... read the conditions carefully. Considering that the new GTX770 may cost less than you paid for the GTX670, they may not allow the step up.

The 770 is an overclocked 680 so it is a little bit better than your 670. The reference design is probably one of the best coolers because it has fancy LED's and great cooling. You can see it here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-770-gk104-review,3519.html

"typified by an aluminum housing, a polycarbonate window with a view down into a beefy heat sink, and an LED-backlit GeForce logo "

This literally means upgrading from a GTX670 with custom cooler to a GTX680 with stock cooler. The different in term of performance won't be a lot, but the increment in temperature and noise might bother you. In conclusion, it doesn't worth upgrading.

This is the actual GTX 770 they can give him:

So, the 770 is a beefy 680, same board etc, but it has a higher stock clock right? Combined with GPUBoost 2.0 which i heard is better than the 1.0 on my 670, would it not be better?
The stock cooler on EVGA's reference design does bother me a bit, since i have this fancy, sexy custom cooler. I guess it depends on whether the reference design is greatly sub-par to the FTW Sig 2.

The noise on stock 770 should be even higher than the 680 in that chart, due to higher clock. Same goes for temperature. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_670_FTW_Signature_2/31.html

Hmmm. That definitely look like a large noise increase over a quiet 28dbA. Would it still be noticeable over 3 stock case fans and a Hyper 212 EVO?
And i usually have music on, so i dont think fan noise would be too much of an issue.

If you often turn your speakers loud, or use a headphone, then the noise won't bother you but the people around, if any.

Other than the sound, are there any issues with the 770 that would be a good enough reason not to upgrade?
Oh, and I'm probably gonna wait until the end of my 90-Day "Step-up" period (August) to do this. Who knows, maybe the 780 will come down in price and i can upgrade to that :3

So i bought a gtx 670 ftw 13 days ago. I just went on EVGA website and applied for the step up. Its completely worth it, My card was a total of 399 on amazon. All i had to pay was an extra 20 dollars: 10 dollar shipping and 9 dollar difference. It is worth it cause Nvida has prob tweaked certain things on the card from the 600 series and also have a few hundred more cuda cores. Also if you look at the OC edition its basically the same as the vanila, the heat sink and cooler are the same also so you can just OC the vanila using EVGA precision x.
