Need Help Upgrading My PC to Handle Next Gen Games (PS4, Xbox One)

My current PC Build:

CPU: AMD ATHLON x3 435 (Unlocked fourth core) 3.0 GHZ
GPU: AMD 6850
RAM: 4GB DDR3

What I was thinking, is since that PS4 and Xbox One CPU's are so terrible, I could still continue using my current CPU and save some money, but tell me what you think about that. I am willing to spend max £100 on a new CPU.

As for the GPU side of things, the GPU definetly needs to be upgraded, I am willing to spend £150-£200 on a new GPU.

And since the PS4 and Xbox One will have 8GB of RAM, I have decided to go with at least 12GB of RAM.

This is the upgrade I was thinking about:

CPU: FX 6300
GPU: A 9870 or GTX 760TI
RAM: 12GB DDR3

What do you guys think?

So wait, are you saying you just want a better system than the next gen consoles?

lol the apus they are using are better than your cpu and gpu plus the games are optimized to play well on these systems. to play well get a better gpu and get a fx 6300 and 8 gb of ram 2x4gb and youll be fine as well as a new psu most likely

also dont go with the last gen amd cpus the new 6 core beats the old 8 cores

you cant compare a console to a pc....

get a FX 8120 instead.
definitely worth waiting for the GTX 760 TI
you prly won't use more than 8GB RAM, but RAM prices are pretty good, so the price difference may not be much at all

Ok, you have a few options. If your wanting a gaming CPU, then Intel's best at that. I would recommend and i3 3220. It's a dual core CPU with Hyper Threading. So you effectively have 4 cores. It's a really good gaming CPU that's only bested by a 3570k. You can get one now OR wait till the new ones come out once Haswell is out. I think that's your best bet. An i3 3220 only costs 113.99. It's the best gaming CPU for the money. This would be your best bet RIGHT now. But if you can wait a month........

If you just can't wait for the i3's from Haswell. Then I would get an A10 6800k that's come out in a month or so. Now the 5800k was pretty much like an FX4300 with a iGPU on it. The 6800k is suppose to be an all around better CPU than the 5800k or 4300. And it's a 4 core CPU that can overclock. Plus the iGPU on it is suppose to kick ass. You could either disable it and get a dGPU. Or you can get a 7770Ghz Edition(for 100$) and put the dGPU and iGPU is crossfire for some pretty good gaming performance. The whole setup will only cost around 230$. And you MIGHT be able to use your old MoBo.

Personally, I'm getting the new 6800k simply because it's going to be a really good QUAD core that'll only cost around 130$ USD. I'm not really getting it for the iGPU. Although I'll probably put the iGPU together with a 7770 in crossfire as well just to make use of it's awesome iGPU. I'm mainly getting the 6800k because it's going to be the best 130$ CPU until Haswell i3's come out. But the i3's won't be out for another 3-4 months, who knows, maybe more. So I'm not waiting. Plus the 6800k is a real QUAD core, unlike the i3. And the 6800k can overclock.

As far as GPU's go. You can get a damn good one for 200 euro. That's like 275$ USD, I think. The 760 Ti from Nvidia will be coming out in the next few week's. It will be almost as powerful as the old GTX680 and it's only going to cost 299.99$ USD or less. So I highly recommend that. The GTX 780 and 770 already came out. In another week the 760Ti will be out. So you won't have to wait for long.

As you can see, I like tech that's brand new. And you should too, it's the best. So I would get the A10 6800k simply because it's a really good quad core gaming CPU that can overclock well and maybe you can use your old MoBo, and I'd get the GTX760Ti because it's going to be a beast of a GPU for the money.

If you don't feel like waiting at all. Then get an i3 3220(113.99) and a GTX 660Ti (279.99). A good AMD GPU is a 7870 for 249.99.

I don't understand why you're using any console as a template for a new build. IMHO, we should always build the most powerful computer we can afford. Also, IMHO, that does NOT include any AMD CPUs.

Best solution

First console are heavly optimized since the specs won't really change, so no point in trying to just "exceed" the current specs. However for porting purposes have a quad or better core *may* help since dev's have more modivation to make there game better threaded.

With that out of the way if you looking to basically only update the CPU, GPU and RAM my suggestion would be the following (assuming your MB can handle the FX line i.e. AM3 socket)

CPU = Get a AMD 6300 or 6350 if you can, checking amazon the 6300 are going for about 90 and the 6350 about 108.

RAM = 8 Gigs are fine you have to remember while the ps4/xbox have 8 it used for every thing including OS. While a PC has system ram and GPU ram not to mention swap file etc. So use the money you would spend on the extra ram and maybe step up to an AMD 8350 (or at least the 6350).

GPU = Well I would a 760ti will probably be a good bet but can't say for use until its released. Also for some reason my gut is telling it won't be full $100 cheaper (switched to us prices) than the 770 if it is great but I'm thinking about $50 so it may exceed your budget. If so you may want to look at Clud 3d 7870 Xt for about $200 (switched back to UK) on amazon.co.uk which is right at your budget.

No, very bad CPU. Get an FX-8350 if you want AMD, but the Bulldozer CPUs are horrible.

PCs will never compare to consoles, ever. This has been brought up many times before and really it can't be done. The hardware that's in consoles is probably best compared to the hardware that's in laptops and AIO PCs.

Yup. The PS3 is ancient now, but there ain't a PC around that can play what the PS3 can with specs similar to the PS3.

I know they are better, that's why I am wanting to upgrade, and that's why I started this thread. LOL XD
