HI there, I hope someone can point me in the right direction as this is getting infuriating now.

I inherited 2 HD 4870's (XFX) and installed them, together with a new copy of win7 (64). installed all a ok. updated drivers and was working on 3 screens. YES 3 screens,. And was working fantastic playing games and everything. It was great.

My missus decided to buy me a new desk which was bigger, so i disconnected the dvi cables. moved the pc onto the new desk. but now, everytime it tries to load. I get the BSOD ATIKMPAG.Sys error with 0x000116 error.

I reformatted the HD and reinstalled, but still getting the same error whenever i update the driver to get the extra screens running. If i take one out, both will work as dual screen cards, but will not work together, even if i try and crossfire them, i get the same bsod message.

With the format of the HD, this would have cleared all old ati files. and i can only get the dual/third screen working with the ATI Drivers,

I know these cards were not designed to work like this, but it was working with no problems, before i disconnected the dvi cables, and i have made sure they have gone back into same ports.

HELP!!!

When they were running together, they were at idle about 50C, n load playing Worldof tanks, they would get up to 85C.

the issue us though, the computer will not start, everytime it tries to start, you get the windows loading screen, and then it goes direct to bsod. it will only load in this configuration under safe mode, but then, only 2 screens work.

I am thinking of chucking em and buying an XFX HD 7750 2gb card with eyefinity, (found it for £68 new) and just doing it properley. just need to also buy an active displayport to dvi connector as well (£20) :(
I did not really want to spend anymore on this computer

The PSU has been upgraded to a 850w corsair.

85C is pretty warm.

Before chucking them, try completely removing the Catalyst drivers (you may have to remove one 4870 to get your rig to boot). Catalyst has an uninstall option. Remove ALL AMD stuff (via a custom vice express) uninstall.

Reboot the system with one GPU installed and re-install the current drivers. Upon completion, shut down and install the second GPU and CF bridge. Start the system.

Open Catalyst and verify both GPUs are running.

BTW, the proposed HD7750 will not be in the same league of performance as 2 CFed 4870s, but the HD7750 is a very good performer for the money.
