Worth an upgrade? GTX 570 to 780

Last night I placed an order for a EVGA GTX 780 with Amazon because it was only 660 including shipping and thought it was a good deal because in California, there is always a 50-60 tax on a card that retails for 650.

This morning I got an e-mail that the order was canceled because they didn't have it in stock... even though it said it was in stock last night when I ordered it.. lol

Anyways, I started thinking about it a little more and thought, why do I even really want to upgrade at the moment? Previously when the 670 came out, I wanted to get that but then changed my mind and decided to go with the 700 series. I think I just got overly excited when the 780 came out and really wanted a 80 series card, because in the past I usually went with the 70 series, like 275 and 570.

But in reality, will it really be much of a difference? I'm already playing all my games maxed out with good results - I only game at 1920x1080 with a Samsung SA950.

What should I wait for? When a card comes out with DirectX 12 maybe?
Should I just get a 780?

Ur correct. The 780 is a very tantilizing card. Heck, the 770 is just as tantilizing with a $400 price tag. but the fact of the matter is that at 1080P resolution, a 570 is about all that you need to max out most games. I got another and SLI'ed when the 600 series came out and saw some performance increase, expecially in BF3, but on a 1080P monitor, I don't really think it's that necessary. My monitor is a 27 inch Samsung 1080P, and that is ALOT of screen space for me. I almost have to lean back to be able to see everything in my field of view. lol.

My advice:
If/when they release games that your card can't your system can't handle, or release software updates that you want to use, but your hardware isn't compatible with, then upgrade. Otherwise, why fix what isn't broken.

Just get the 780 if you can afford it. With the new gen of consoles the graphics in PC games are only going to get better and put more demand on your system. A GTX 660 beats a 570, and a GTX 780 just stomps it into the dirt. If you don't really have that kind of money I suggest you check newegg for the new GTX 770s that just dropped yesterday. They are a little more powerful than the GTX 680s for considerably less money. They start at $399.99, but I would suggest the EVGA superclock version for about $430 if you went that route.

Why get a SC edition of the 770?
Isn't Boost 2.0 dependent on the GPU's temp?
it boosts it as much as it needs till the temps get too high (or the voltage is too high, which wouldn't happen unless you have some extreme cooling)

570 to 780 is a real upgrade..
around 100%(!!) performance improvement..that means this baby brother of titan is twice faster than your old 570.

If you can't wait more, just get it.

But if you still have patience, well..wait till october when HD 8000 and HD 9000 coming out..
HD8970 35% faster than 7970GE..this card will play in same league with nvidia $1000 card called titan..
and HD9970 is a real monster, give same specification with 7990 in single card (so that's means no stuttering etc), it will give almost 90%-100% performance boost than 7970GE..

A GTX 570 is going to be around 70% on this chart. So a GTX 780 should be about a 60% increase in performance.
