I created a few new local user profiles in Windows 8 for my kids. I wanted to track their activity with Family Safety. So I set up the accounts and specified they be monitored but never got any reports. Later when I tried to make changes to the family safety settings for the users, Windows 8 told me it was unable to save the changes. I am able to see the profiles in the admin tool but when I looked in c:/users directory, the profiles were not there (although some others are)! I looked on d:/users and they are not there either. Any idea how I can find where the profiles are and how I can fix the problem with family safety?

Hello there

If you are unable to see the user profiles in the C:\Users folder, the possible reason can be that either the created user accounts have never been accessed, or the user profiles have been moved to any other location manually. Make sure that the user accounts that you created for your kids and other family members do not belong to the Administrators group. If they were previously the members of the Administrators group, they had the privilege of moving their profiles manually to a different location.

You can check the new location of the moved user profiles by right clicking the target user accounts in the Computer Management snap-in (can be opened by typing 'compmgmt.msc' command in the Run command box and expanding the Local Users and Groups > Users container.)

Once you are in the Users container, right click the user whose user profile you want to locate, and from the displayed context menu, click Properties.

From the Properties box, go to the Profiles tab.

You will find the new location of the profile of that user in the Profile path field.

About the Family Safety, try reconfiguring the settings and restart the system after making any changes.

Hope this helps.
