is the corsair hx750 PSU enough for the GTX 780 ?

Hi every one.
I'm playing in getting a new graphic card and probably the gtx 780 but before i buy it i wanted to be sure if my PSU (corsair HX 750) could handle it at high res (1080p) or if i should go for a better one ? and if so wich one would you recomend me to get ? Also i'd like to know if a i5 3570k oc at 4.2Ghrz would be enough too or is it going to bottleneck ?

Yes; the power supply will be fine with one GTX 780 and decent for SLI, but I would recommend 800W. The i5 won't bottleneck a GTX 780.

Considering that the GTX 780 is rated for 250W, the HX 750 can easily support two if these cards in SLI. 750W is overkill for a single card. Consider a good 500-650W PSU

thanks for your answers, i read here http://videocardz.com/nvidia/geforce-700/geforce-gtx-780 that the minimum required PSU is 600w what's the difference with the 250w of power draw ?

@slomo4sho: head room for OC. I've managed to kill my computer (not technically kill) with HD 7970 GHz CrossFireX @1100 GHz, CPU @ 4.5GHz with a Corsair TX750.

Err oops I typo'd. I meant 1100MHz or 1.1GHz. Sorry about that. How much head room is there for GTX 780 OC?

Edit: what core speed is that OC at?

It is a 200MHz overclock at 1.20V. A 23% core overclock and 17% memory overclock. When I said not much headroom, I mean in comparison to the 7970

From reading comments on forums at forums.geforce.com, guru3d.com, overclock.net, etc. most people recommend 850W.

850w is what I would recommend for SLI I do not care about articles and power consumption charts.

I guess it is worth waiting for more reviews and data on the card to determine the optimal PSU for an SLI build with these cards. The problem with forum comments are that most are not based on any factual data and are just opinions like the above poster clearly illustrated.

The difference between the 250W draw and the recommendation for a 600W psu is made up of additional wattage needed to run the other parts in the computer and some headroom. There are no standards for rating psus. Good brands are more honest in their power ratings and their higher end lines even more so. The only negative to putting in a massive psu into a computer is up front cost off the psu. but they usually have higher efficiency and maybe cost less to run.

This is a major misconception. All PSUs have an efficiency range that is dependent on the load of the unit.
