Hello all! About two years ago I built a semi-budget freindly computer that needed to only be able to run image editing programs and be able to do basic programming for work. Beyond that it was built to be able to play games from time to time, but it wasn't built to be a top of the line PC. It was basically my backup work PC and was used only as needed since I had a much more powerful laptop provided by my work that could do everything I needed it to do. The PC used to work great, but even though it is only two years old it is showing its age with some news programs/games.

On top of that, I hate using my laptop and since I work from home more often than not I'd love to have a much more capable PC. I've also been getting into gaming more, so I figured that I may as well dump some money into this desktop and make it what it should be.

The only problem with updating this PC is that really I know software and not hardware. I was able to piece together what the computer is currently, but I'm sure had I asked for help I could have come up with a much better one for the price.

And while I do want to upgrade, I also don't have a ton of money to spend on it (about $400) and I do want parts that will hold up for a while.

Currently my setup is the following:

2x Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM HDD

ASRock 970 EXTREME4

RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-730SS 730W

SAPPHIRE 100338L Radeon HD 6770

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus

I also MIGHT have an additional 4GB ram that I can add to this (not 100% sure on that one) and I do have a 128GB SSD that I was planning on adding.

Approximate Purchase Date: Next week or two, no later than June 15th
Budget Range: $400 Before Rebates; After Shipping
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Programming, Image/video editing
Are you buying a monitor: No
Parts to Upgrade: Whatever possible to improve performance
Do you need to buy OS: No
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com, but don't mind using others
Location: Indianapolis, US
Parts Preferences: Doesn't matter
Overclocking: Maybe
SLI or Crossfire: Maybe
Your Monitor Resolution: Currently dual monitor @ 1600x900. Not the best and will upgrade eventually, but not for a while
Additional Comments: Would like it to be able to run Adobe CS6 (and similiar products) and new games well. Beyond that, I am not at all picky.
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: The system is a bit dated, and doesn't run as well as I'd like it to.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I agree about the ssd. It would help some but probably not with games. Graphics tend to lack as of now and speeds do suffer a bit on higher settings.

The games I play range from games like Borderlands 2 to Tomb Raider and everything in between. Any new hyped game, I'll probably try lol.

Borderlands isn't terribly difficult. Hmm thinking what one could do your budget is very open to changing things. Firstly update your bios.

two scenarios I see for you.
AMD build: You get a updated processor and graphics card you also get Bioshock Infinite, FC3 blood dragon, and Tomb Raider. However if you enjoy the physx that goes along with borderlands 2 you may want to get a Nvidia card which I'll list below this build.
