During an install of Windows 7 the laptop I was installing the OS on shutdown after I started the install and now the message I am greeted with is "Reboot and Select proper boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key". No bios come up neither do any other others and when I put the disc in to try to do the install again it fails to load. I was downgrading from Windows 8. I have never encountered a problem like this and would like to know if it is salvageable. Thank you for any information and help in advance.

Update* I unequipped the HDD and the bios returned. Also started loading the windows install disc. In my bios however it reads Sata port 1: Not installed Sata port 2 is functional. I don't know if the drive itself is dead or if its possible something else is causing the error. Thank you once again for your time.

I may be to late, but in case you havent solved the problem; It sounds like SATA port 1 is damaged. The obvious solution is to connect the Hard Drive to the No 2 SATA port.

If the problem persists, repair the windows 8 boot with the DVD according to the following instructions....
