A few months ago i decided to take the plunge and buy myself all the bits to make my own pc system.
asrock fm2a75 pro4 mobo
a10 5800k apu
lg blu ray writer
kinston hyper x 1866 2x4gbs ddr3 ram.
and so on,
because funds were low at the time i didnt buy a hd6670 to dual graphics with my apu.
but after alot of indecisivness, i wanted fairly good graphics better then what i thought the dual graphics setup wpould give me so yestderday i purchased and installed the asus gtx 660 with 2gb gddr5 memory.
But my problem is im not sure if it is performing as well as it should be, the only benchmarking tool i have access to use the metro2033 benchmark tool, i only seem to be getting an average of maybe 6fps more then i did with the apu graphics, and this is in the low twenties, the only settings that i have changed is in bios, changing pci express card to primary graphics. Is there anything else i need to do? uninstall amd vision? uninstall any of the apu graphics drivers? Change a anymore settings?

You changed PCIE card to primary in bios?
I guess you should have done the opposite.

1) Unplug GTX 660.
2) Go to bios and choose PCIE (PEG) in primary video adapter settings. Basically giving first priority.
3) Turn off system and install the card again.
4) Connect the monitor to the new card's socket (Try to use VGA to DVI cable or HDMI, latter preferred).
5) Start system.

Then the system will load on the new card instead of APU one, after that you can install the drivers of your card and uninstall apu drivers as per your need. :)

This is basically what i did when i first installed the card, Iv already changed the settings in uefi (bios) under primary graphics adaptor settings there were three options it was already on [on board] so i changed it to [pci express] the other option was [pci], what is the reasoning to taking out the card and redoing this process again?

If you did that while your card was plugged in, chances are it won't work properly.
Usually whenever graphics are switched through bios, the dedicated card is not plugged in unless it is the selected one.

Go to device manager and see if your card is listed there and is working properly, then if yes, download GPU Z and see if its giving output. Put some stress on it by Kombuster and see if its being used at all or not.

That would confirm that the card is plugged in and is working properly without any major problems. Then we can look at other reasons.

As of now, I am thinking that the card is not getting used properly due to a reason or two.

i was using asus gpu-z and it was saying giving information for the apu graphics and another option to show the gtx 660 graphics information, I have now found another setting in uefi about shared memory i had set it to 1gb a couple of months ago for the apu, but iv now changed it to auto and now asus gpu-z is now showing the only information available is for the gtx 660, i guese this is where i want to be at ?
I ran the kombuster test with the [furry and tessy test gl4] and did the run preset:1080 , aa was off and post fx off and got a score of 1740 with an avg fps of 29, min was 26 and max 31. Do these scores mean anything to you?

I have HD 6850 which is slightly worse than GTX 660 (nearly equal) but I am able to get around 3200 score in kombuster. It gives me 65 FPS average, 63 min, 67 max.

There is some problem with your video card. It is functioning but not at its appropriate speed.

Yep its what i kinda gathered but is there anything you can suggest to sort this problem out, any settings to change? anything i should check? should i uninstall amd vision or anyhting else that was related to the onboard graphics?

Ok since you have GPU-Z, enable the Log To File option and run the benchmark with GPU-Z open.

Then check the log file and see what your clocks are doing. If your clocks are holding steady, it may be another issue. If your clocks are jumping all over the place during the test, then you have a problem.

Temps are another thing to check.

what scores and fps do you get using the 1080 preset and running the [GF OC test (gl4)

GF OC Test (GL4)
Anti Aliasing - Off
Resolution - 1920 x 1080
FPS Min - 64
FPS Max - 66
FPS Average - 65 (60000 ms)

Score - 3927

CPU - Core i5 2500k (Stock)
GPU - Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1 GB
RAM - 8 GB Corsair Vengeance
PSU - 600W

Our systems are somewhat similar (Your CPU is weaker by a bit) so you should have scores of around 2800 - 3300 .. Please post it here.
