Is there an alternative to hard drives to backup files?
I find my hard drives to often get damaged unexpectedly fast.
Companies probably got prof systems for backup. But are there file backup devices targeted for private use? The size of the storage media should be measured in tb, and be long term consistent, whereas transfer speed has low priority. Media preferable low priced. Thanks.

I think I seen some on Newegg that had USB. Glad I could at least point you in a direction that might work. Guess my first instinct was right on. I just wasn't sure how positively you'd react to tapes, lol.

You could look into Tape drives. There are the 160GB tapes they are only $25.00 each, but you still need the tape drive. I think there are some for $300 if your a savvy shopper. I don't know a lot about the topic, but maybe it is worth looking into.

EDIT:
Changed my mind do a NAS Box With RAID. RAID 1, RAID5, or RAID 10 would all work. Basically If a drive dies you can just pop a new one in and not lose your data,

Newegg has a bunch of NAS Boxs: http://www.newegg.com/Desktop-NAS/SubCategory/ID-124

How RAID works:

Thank you for answers. Raid misses the point. It still uses hard drives but more of them. The tape storage solution is closer to what I had in mind. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linear_Tape-Open lto seems to be the standard and lto5 meeting my requirements. They even come in an internal computer configuration. They are made for long term backup. And the price of the media can compete with hard drives. Downfall is the price of the device, and scsi port, so no usb connection?
Thanks.
