I've seen this asked and answered a few times with a few different results, but I feel I may have a slightly different situation.
So my motherboard got fried last week and is RMA'd right now. I decided to upgrade and sell the old one with some other parts upon its return. The old board was a P67, the new one is a Z77. I was under the impression I could do a repair install of Windows, but it seems that may not be the case.
I have my original Win7 disc, which I tried running after the original install would blue screen and reboot. It's now locked in startup repair. I had an old HDD that I did a fresh install of 7 on, including the mobo drivers. Theoretically, would it be possible for me to copy those drivers onto the original install drive and boot? I'm assuming it's the new chipset causing me problems. I'm thinking I can do startup recovery and load drivers from the new Windows\INF directory. Can someone tell me which I might need to update? There's already 1300+ files in that directory.
When the old MoBo returns, I can install it and recover things (thinking of cloning the original installation as a backup) if something gets messy.
Also, the original installation drive is stuck in Startup Recovery from the Win7 disc. Is this something I can delete on that drive to make it try to boot normally again?
