Got a Bug need some help

got a bug or more on my laptop. it wont let me download upgrades, pnp mouse wont work, audio is gone, drivers wont download, work right or are missing, wireless doesn't work have to lan it. I want to wipe it clean and start over. whats the best way to do that.

laptop is a vio vgn-aw310j proc: intel(r) core(tm) 2 duo cpu t6500 2.10ghz each
ram: 4gb os: vista 64bit vista home premium

Try a hirem booT cd or a anti virus recovery boot cd to kill the bug and save your data. If not most new pc and laptops have a restore partioned. You hit an f key at post to start the recover.

There are no update for Vista Service Pack 1, that was shut down back in 2012 by Microsoft, you'd need Vista Service Pack 2 to obtain updates.

Otherwise, go to the Sony Vaio webiste and download the drivers direct however, not all models have drivers available, better to try to solve the issues at hand using the suggestion by snorizio.

Whatever you do, don't format the hdd.
