My video card is a Nvidia Geforce 9600GT. For normal everyday computing it runs just fine. However when I run games like Elder Scrolls or Fallout it will run fine for thirty minutes to an hour. At that point it will black out. The picture goes out yet the computer is still running. I just replaced my power supply thinking that was the problem however it is still happening. So long as I don't run these graphically intense games I can run the computer for days with no restart and no issues. Any questions feel free to ask.

Usually fan is set on auto and changes its speed depending on temperature so I don't think there is need to alter it. It would get to its 100% when needed and would be quieter when not in use.

But yes I agree you are going to need to watch your temperatures. You can also try to do a stress test with Kombuster until your PC blacks out and see the last noted temperature there. Make sure it is not higher than 95 or it can be a heating issue.

Also you can try keeping the case open or installing better coolers.

I downloaded MSI Afterburner and Kombuster. I ran them both and Kombuster would not take the temperature over 104. A that point it would fluctuate between 101 and 104. So I turned Kombuster off and loaded up a game and it blacked out at somewhere around 90. Also the box fan mentioned is just that a box fan. It is not a computer fan it is actually bigger than my tower.

..Factory fan speed setting never reach 100%, no matter how hot it is..
actually it's usually never getting faster than 30% until it is reach 90'c...
So that's why you need msi after buner fan speed graph..

no no no no..
Using box fan just trapped heat and make messy airflow in your case..

if your card is silent version (no fan), just use regular fan case, and tied with twist tie or something else on to your gpu heatsink..
for example:
gpu.jpg

and remember to re applied your thermal paste..

wtf..at 104'c you can cook an egg on your GPU !!..
This temp is way too hot to handle..

No wonder you've got black screen on your monitor..

Once more again..
add fans to your GPU heatsink, and reapplied your thermal paste
Real computer fan..not a box fan..

Okay gave this a try. Do not have the thermal paste however. It seemed to work as the game ran almost two hours before blacking out. Also it doesn't have the cover so there is no copper plate over the GPU. So should I get the thermal paste then try again? Or should I just buy a whole new video card that is intact? Thanks for all the help so far.

Edit: If I go with a new card I was thinking a Nvidia Geforce 9800GT. Thoughts?
