Memory Upgrade Question for Laptop

Okay, here is the thing...last year I ruined my motherboard while trying to upgrade the RAM, even though I "thought" I was being careful. I guess it wasn't pressed in all the way or something and it fried the motherboard. I built a new computer from scratch except for putting DVD burning back in and using the same case/PSU, and I never had any more problems with it. But now I am in a situation where I want to upgrade my laptop memory, but am a little afraid of ruining it like I did my desktop.

More importantly, I am wanting to know if I will have compatibility trouble because the additional 2Gb is 1333 and the I think the original is 1066. Does that speed difference make them unable to go in at the same time or will the 1333 clock down since the laptop is not supposed to be able to go over 1066.

Should I not chance it (keeping in mind it is a three year old laptop, so if it goes boom, I am not going to be up crying all night over it).

Even completely ignoring the fact that laptops are either silly or impossible to upgrade, you're

wanting to mix different kinds of RAM. Even if you found RAM which had the same frequency as your

installed RAM and managed to install it, issues could still arise. I don't think you have much to gain by

going through with this to be honest. Possible or not.

It is an eMachines e442 v429 (I think those are all the right numbers, or awefully darn close....I'm at another location currently.

I appreciate your honesty and maybe that is the best solution right there. For the moment though, I am still open to suggestions. I don't know what is in the machine right now and am assuming it is 1066 from when it was manufactured. I didn't know when I bought the Kingston RAM upgrade that it was 1333. I got mixed up because of the 10600 number which I somehow thought said 1066. On the bright side, I only paid $9.50 for the 2Gb Kingston RAM.

Yes, the memory is compatible. It will work together. Yes, the 1333MHz will be downclocked to the speed that is installed in the laptop, if the existing memory is 1066MHz. In terms of performance, the difference between 1333MHz and 1066MHz is a thin line. Your laptop supports upto 8GB of memory. A BIOS might make things easier when you are mixing the speeds. I don't suppose you will needing memory any soon. If you need any suggestions please do let me know.

If you need memory then perhaps try any of these sites:
