Up until last week I was using Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC v6.0) to easily sync an HP210 with MS Outlook 2007 in Win 7/64.
Unfortunately in doing a bios update on an overheating Asus laptop, the laptop lost power and turned itself into a brick.
Replaced it with a Qosimo x875-Q-7190 running Win 8 (seems like most of the performance laptops only come with win 8, not 7/64. Installed WMDC v6.1. The 210 mounts up and is recognized OK. You can change the partnership settings, but when trying to sync you get a sync failure message.
Don't want to use the cloud for b/u. And any sync software using file tree method won't work with the HP 210 file system.
Anybody with any ideas, I would surely appreciate. Farmerbud
Unfortunately, that is not correct. Apparently Microsoft deleted all support for Windows Mobile Device Center (WDMC). Drivers have all been updated to latest.
See Microsoft Compatibility Center Link:
Compatibility of Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center
Many other users are reporting the very same problem. Device will connect and start syncing, but each time it fails. Microsoft has been really pushing their cloud b/u. Maybe that's why no support for WMDC in win 8. Microsoft says it is compatible, but it simply doesn't work.
The following info is from Microsoft's compatibility WMDC site above second posting from Microsoft:
Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center replaces ActiveSync for Windows Vista, and Microsoft Windows 7.
Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 is currently only available for the following versions of Microsoft Windows Vista.
Windows 7 Ultimate
Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Home Premium
Windows 7 Starter
Windows Vista Ultimate
Windows Vista Enterprise
Windows Vista Business
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Server
Note that Windows 8 is not listed. Microsoft clearly abandoned all its old customers on WMDC in Win 8!
