I'm building a computer, when I am trying to install Windows 8 and it ask me where i want it, my WD black 1TB HHD is nowhere to be found.. Another reason i find this odd is because the bios recognises my HHD, it's only the widows 8 program that fails to find the drive! Please help!

Solution
The sata driver will be available from the motherboard manufacture. And unlike jitpublisher said windows 7 and 8 still require drivers for some Sata controller. For instance the Marvell sata III controller on my X79 board requires drivers for Win 7 and 8 to install properly. Also if you are not using raid make sure raid is disabled in the bios.

Yes, I have the optical drive first and the HDD second. But Windows 8 wont recognise the HDD at all..

Windows will have the right SATA drivers, you don't need to do that anymore, not since the second edition of XP came out.
However, I must admit I am a little stumped too, if the POST screen lists both your optical drive and the hard drive as connected and passing POST without errors, the Windows setup program should find the drive just fine. Is there anything you are doing out of the ordinary to install Win 8, I mean other than putting an authentic Win 8 DVD in, booting to it, and beginning the install as prompted?

That's the frustrating part, I have an authentic Win 8 and nothing but the bios when it comes to software.. Shouldn't be anything that could go wrong.

Okay, that is fair, SOME controllers will require second party drivers. Most won't. However, you bring up a pretty good point here I did not think about, the OP may indeed have the drive plugged into the marvel controller on his board. If you are an average desktop user or gamer, with only a couple of drives in your system, using the marvel controller is not the best route to go. I have gotten so used to making sure the Marvel controller is not being used in my builds, and I did not even think about it here in this situation.
