Is my motherboard fried? Replaced fan but still no beep.

Saw the other threads on the same topic but didn't want to hijack anyone else's thread...

While I was gone on vacation, the roommate was using his computer during a lightning storm and there was a power surge and everything shut down. The computer never powered on again. I did some testing on it and decided the PSU was blown so I bought another PSU--exact same PSU part number as the old one. Here's some details:

With blown PSU installed: upon pressing the power button, computer does not come on. No beep. Fan does not spin. Blue power light from the coolermaster comes on. No signal on monitor. I can hear a noise from the PSU.

With new PSU installed: upon pressing the power button, computer does not come on. No beep. Fan DOES spin though. Blue power light from the coolermaster comes on. No signal on monitor. No noise coming from PSU.

So is my MB blown? Is there a way I can directly test the MB to see?

Also, what type of surge protector should I get to prevent this from ever happening again?

Thanks guys.

Hi TechNoob4Ever,
Dude that sucks to hear.
If you have replaced the PSU and you're still not getting anything, no beeps no.... nothing, it does unfortunately sound like you PSU had been fried and your MoBo as well =(
If replacing the PSU only made the difference of a fan spinning up then that would tell me the PSU had gone, but if it's still dead in the water, I would be confident it's deceased!
Only real way to check is to try it on another system. If you haven't got the means to test all the parts on another rig, I would recommend you take it to a shop and get them to test everything as you may be lucky'ish and find that the CPU, RAM, GPU are still ok, but I wouldn't hold too much hope :(

Sorry man
