While I was gone on vacation, the roommate was using his computer during a lightning storm and there was a power surge and everything shut down. The computer never powered on again. I did some testing on it and decided the PSU was blown so I bought another PSU--exact same PSU part number as the old one. Here's some details:
With blown PSU installed: upon pressing the power button, computer does not come on. No beep. Fan does not spin. Blue power light from the coolermaster comes on. No signal on monitor. I can hear a noise from the PSU.
With new PSU installed: upon pressing the power button, computer does not come on. No beep. Fan DOES spin though. Blue power light from the coolermaster comes on. No signal on monitor. No noise coming from PSU.
So is my MB blown? Is there a way I can directly test the MB to see?
Also, what type of surge protector should I get to prevent this from ever happening again?
Thanks guys.
