Signal Strength etc

Ok so here goes. I just want to confirm a few things so thats why I am here. Ive got a linksys wireless g router, I cannot at this moment afford to upgrade to N. Right now the router sits right next to a phone, modem and computer on the first floor I am on the second floor. I get horrible reception and my internet speed sucks so bad lol I have researched and found that electronics can interfere with the signal etc. If I move the router into the foyer area where there are no interference will it help me out? I live in a 3000 sq ft house... ( I know I know lol )

try to have the router where nothing could interfer with the signal the other thing you have wall and floor so that is reducing the strench of the signal you receive on the second floor .

the router should be higher than the client for better signal

Distance, walls/ceilings, electronics, antenna orientation can all affect signal strength.

1. Move the router
2. Rotate the antenna so it is sideways. Generally, it radiates in a doughnut shape. 20' vertical access is weaker than 20' horizontal access.

Basically, try different things until it works better!

That is exactly what I thought. But explaining it to my father... well.. you can imagine how that goes. (girls dont know anything about any technical stuff... no never... )
