Hello Forum,

I have a 8gb usb stick. When I put it in, it loads up as a mass storage but I cant access it, tells me to please insert a removable disk.

I have tried changing the name of it, changing permissions, copyin and pasting files from windows32 from the filedepository. Uninstalled drivers, reinstalled em, installed chipset, install the dedicated drivers for the USB for my motherboard and nothings worked.

Is the usb stick dead?

i had this problem once....turned out a file called usbstor.inf was missing....Windows has several copies of such files....first go to C:\Windows\Inf (its a hidden protected OS folder) and see if the file is there....if not, then u'll have copies of it lying in C:\Windows\Winsxs's subfolders....copy the latest one and place it in the Inf folder .... if that doesn't work try Windows Update (all this assuming u have Vista or later)

Windows wont let me copy usbstor.inf into that folder, even after taking full permission of it. Maybe I should knock that one down before trying anything else.

I had another usb stick and it worked fine. Would a dead usb drive not be seen at all?
