well, im making a computer, finally got it set up. i tried installing my graphics drivers and it gave me black screen after loading windows, i tried things to sort this. then NOW, i cant even get that far, it boots staright into system repair and cant repair it. I've tried numerous things, like use DBAN to clear my hardrive, or use my windows disc to re-install windows, but i cant seem to boot from USB or Disc/DVD. ive tried in the bios, changed boot order, ive tried the boot menu, and no luck. So i need help either clearing the hard drive, or doing a clean install of windows 7. I need help really soon as i need to get using the computer really soon for personal reasons.

thanks in advance.

EDIT

AMD phenom ii x6 1055t

thermaltake 480w psu
gigabyte 97A-DS3 motherboard
Asus geforce GT640 graphics card
Seagate Constellation ES 1TB hard drive

pretty much. the only way to make it boot from CD is get the sata wire from the Optical drive and put it in the Hard drive, and visa versa, but then the installation doesnt see i have a hard drive. im not sure why this makes a difference as the wires are both the same, except one is at a right angle at one end

Try using a different SATA port on the motherboard.

i have tried that, it doesnt work. if i change the wire going into the hard drive and put it in the disc drive, and visa versa, it works, but then it doesnt see a hard drive when im installing windows, would it be safe to, when it gets to the point of selecting a harddrive, switch back?

whilst the computer was on, i switched the cables, this let me see the hard drive during installation, but the installation wont let me install to the hard drive, it says;
''Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing partition. See the Setup log files for more information.''

i have manged to fix THIS problem, but a new problem ahs arose, when i try something 'intensive' like launch google chrome, or launch a game such as Minecraft, the computer abruptly restarts, this is worrying

Go thru your list of devices in the device manager, and make sure you've got the most updated drivers. If there's an updated BIOS, you may want to look at the fixes applied in that flash and update if you feel that's necessary.

PS is a real POS.

can you format the drive on another computer and reinstall the operating system again.

and did you install the motherboard drivers off the disc that came with the board?

try updating the BIOS./ they have an auto update tool for that. might even be on that disc.

i had a disc with drivers, so i installed all the drivers. but its no longer a problem, its the fact that it restarts at times when the system would need extra power (launching complex programs such a chrome, launching multiple programs at a time, starting a game). i am led to beleive its the power supply, as its not very new, i dont think its the motherboard, it all seems to be fine(no bulgy capacitors), gpu an cpu dont seem to go over 30degreesC, the psu isnt overheating, it just may have lost its ability to reach 480w maybe, as its quite some years old. i did memtest, which returned no errors. the main error im getting seems to be kernel power(id 41), as it says in windows. i also checked if if there were any listed faulty hardware in windows, this returned no results/

no, the PS is a POS. not enough power to run itself let alone a computer. you do what most people do. look at how many watts and how cheap I can get those watts.............. you need to look at getting the proper power................. forget about watts........ it's way too misleading.

The reason i have this psu is because the owner gave it to me for free, along with a case

There is a calculator for those... like you enter how many Fans you got, CPU fan etc and it sum it up. take approx of it and + 100 Watt and that is mostly what you need.

Look at the tag on the side of the PSU. It will tell you how many amps and wattage the 12v rail can supply. That's where the PC gets the majority of the power from. You may have a 480w PSU, but if only 350w are dedicated to the 12v rail, you've got a vastly underpowered PSU. It's like the small print at the bottom of the screen that most people don't see.
