So i was looking to overclock my i5 3450 because i bought a gtx 780 which will arrive in a few days, and i dont want my CPU bottlenecking my GPU.

i dont have any special cooling(maybe i do, how do i check?), yet from what i understand i can still OC my CPU To some extent,so can someone please tell me what i need to change in my bios in order to improve my cpu, but without risking it getting ruined/system failure/something bad.
my specs:
motherboard: h77 d3h
psu: antec 620W high current gamer.
(i hope that's all you need).

at the moment, without doing anything, my cpu cores stand at around 30 C,i dont know if that helps u understand how much i can OC my cpu, but thought i should mention it.

i would really appreciate it if someone took the time and helped me through steam\skype, iam DjDafiDak in both.
Thanks dudes =P ( and sorry for my english it's not my main language)

p.s i already got turbo mode enabled, even though i dont understand if it acttualy does something.

I don't really want to dig around for threads (I also don't know how to OC) but modern Sandy Bridge / Ivy Bridge quad cores will not bottle neck a single 780 or even a Titan. Multiple ones maybe a tiny bit, but that's it.

Edit: Yes, you are in the same boat as me, a non unlocked chip with an unlocked board. I got mine because I didn't want to OC unfortunately.

Double Edit: Yes, USAFRet wasn't trying to be rude, just lazy. No you can't really OC non K chips.

Triple Edit: Here is one post with your same CPU and GTX 780 http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1690144/gtx-780-3450-10ghz.html

Lol you just linked me myself XD
from what i understand i can OC non K chips to some extent, like in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgyAGZrEiz4.

LOL. Didn't realize it. Well then, looks like you have two of the same answers. You can by disableing the turbo and just raising the multiplyer to what the max turbo was. I don't know how to do that or have no interest in doing it so I can't help you.

Skip to 1:50 of that video in the link. It won't help you that much, but you can do it. It will also wear down your parts quicker over time because it isn't made for that.

Well since no one is acttualy helping me, i just turned my BCLK to 102MHZ + i have turbo mode enabled, so hopefully i wont bottleneck my new GPU.
would love some more expert opinion about the subject of cpu needs in new games.

You shouldn't touch the BCLK. It effects just about every part of the system, and gives you very little benefit. By increasing it you are just risking instability.

Non-K Sandy & Ivy quad cores are supposed to be able to increase the multiplier by 4 bins, giving you can extra 400mhz of speed, for a max clockspeed of 3.9Ghz. You should be taking a look at the CPU Multiplier, and it should allow you to increase it to 39. I'm not sure if it is turbo speed or the base speed that it will allow you to change, but you should be able to increase one of them.

Edit: Woops.... really should've checked the date on this thread first.

You should be able to get 4ghz fairly easy with bclck overclocking.
Make sure you back up important stuff, though..it can corrupt data
