Will turning off the display stop the GPU from rendering?

I'm trying to stress test my GPU and will turning off the monitor stop it from rendering my benchmarks? It is a Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 XT hooked up via HDMI.

Thanks, but what about Zero Core power? I read about it on the AMD website. I'm assuming you need to have power tune installed for it to do this, but without that software the card should render?
