I stuck the drive into another computer and, after a couple of tries, managed to wipe the SSD 840 drive by booting from a windows 7 flash drive. The SSD 840 is now seen by my desktop.

However, I can't remove "Patriot Memory PMAP" from the list of bootable devices in my motherboard's BIOS. Any ideas on how to do this? What is it even?

Original Question: Windows 8 Force Shutdown During Sleep. Can't boot, repair or perform fresh install now

Well, I recently installed windows 8 on my desktop. My computer went into sleep mode, and wouldn't wake up, so I was force to do a force shutdown by holding down the power button. Now, it won't boot.

I had Windows 8 installed on my Samsung SSD 840. In my bios, I no longer see this drive as a boot option. Instead, I see Patriot Memory PMAP. However, if I try to boot from this, a windows 8 styled screen appears that says "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again."

So, I then tried to perform a system recovery. I booted from my Windows 8 installation disk, and selected "Refresh your PC". I get the following error:

"The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again."

I then tried the "Reset your PC option" and got the error:

"Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing."

A system restore failed.

Finally, I tried a fresh install. But there was no drive to install it to since my computer can't see the SSD.

I've rebooted my computer around 30 times, and I did happen to see the SSD 840 in the bios boot options during the 15th or so reboot, but not since. I have 3 hard drives and i've tried switching around the connections to my motherboard (Asus p8z68-v pro) and disconnecting the drives individually.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you.
