What is the best setting for QOS (gaming)

I am a 5mbps user , i just bought a router (asus rt 56u) . I bought this because of qos feature.

My question is what is the best setting for gaming . I mainly play heroes of newerth while downloading . Can i play HON while downloading(bit-torrent) without spike ? how should i set?

please teach me set it up , i just wan solve the problem between Hereos of newerth and Bit torrent.

Here my current setting but i feel abit spike while playing Hon with downloading.Is it possible to make it lag free with high download speed ?

Pretty much it is a waste of time. The only QoS you can control is what you are sending OUT from your router. You can select which packet can use the bandwidth.

Traffic coming TO your house there is little you do about. By the time your router sees the packet it has already eaten the bandwidth. Its not like you can undo the reception of data. Only the ISP can control what they send you.

Now this router is one of the few you can partially fix this. It is a hack based on how the TCP protocol reacts to errors. Now if the application uses UDP (like games or streaming video) then you cannot really limit it. It also does not limit bit torrent well.

So that said the only option you have is to create a group that only includes your PC ip address. We will assume your are not running bit torrent or other on your machine while you game. After you get a group that includes just your machine you assign this to a HIGH group. Then what you do since everything else is assigned to low by default is you put in a hard bandwidth limit for the low group. You need to limit this to a some number that leaves enough bandwidth for you high group. Say you had a 5m connection. You would limit all not your machine to say 2m which leaves 3m for your machine. Note the key problem with this is even if you are not using the 3m for gaming the other machines are still limited to 2m.

So this router qos is useless ?? oh man ,i tot changing better router can help me solve the problem. On the another hand my housemate keep streaming video then make my game spike(so sad that no solution).

This router is better than most. It does have the feature that lets you set hard limits on the input and output.

Again as I put in the first post you must define a system that lets your high class run with no restictions but limits the default low class to some value. It will take trial and error to get that number.

Most video application are smart enough to reduce the quality if it takes loss. Then again other just stop and go buffering and then run again. In that case the person watching and not the program will be the one that decides to reduce the bandwidth.

If you do not understand the concept of matching a IP or mac in the configuration in the router you have no hope to configure something as advanced as QoS. I would suggest you search youtube for videos or read the manual to get some basic knowledge before you try a extremely advanced concept like QoS
