Is a GTX 780 Worth the Upgrade?

A little about my specs:
- Core i5 3570K
- 1GB 560Ti's SLI
- I game on a 22" 1920x1080 monitor.

I'm curious if a shiny new GTX 780 3GB be a worth while improvement from my 560Ti's.
My temptation to do so is that it's been 2 generations (which seems to be a rule of thumb), and with all the Skyrim texture mods, and Last Light's killer tessellation and PhysX, the 3GB and Turbo Boost 2 would be useful.

Also would a 780 be a combination with the 3570K. Seems pretty even to me..

Nopes! I would not recommend GTX 780 considering the fact that GTX 770 is present and is just 15% weaker than GTX 780 but is significantly cheaper.

Investing in GTX 780 would be nonsense. GTX 770 is an overclocked GTX 680 and is very close to 780. Go for that one and it suits your system too. :)

yeah I've already seen benchmarks, luckiestcharm can't fool me.(; I picked the 780 because I can't justify a $1000TITAN/690, so the 780 is the best option. and I do plan on upgrading the monitor relatively soon. It just seems like the 560ti's are showing their age, especially in brand new games (Metro, Bioshock: Infinite) when the fancy settings are on. (DX11 Tessellation, PhysX)

In that case, sure, why shouldn't you. :D

Really? :)
Alright let us take the benchmarks of your very first game. Crysis 3 -

GTX 780 - 31.17
GTX 770 - 26.37

Just above I said it is 15% weaker than GTX 780 in terms of benchmarks.

Would you like to calculate?

31.17 x 15/100 = 4.6755
When subtracted - 31.17 - 4.6755 = 26.45 (15% weaker GTX 770)

It is just about 15% weaker in average. While the cost is $450 (as compared to $700 of former) which is 35% more expensive, so what do you think is better? I leave it at your own personal taste .. but just justified that its value for money is low. Rest on you .. :)

Almost guaranteed, considering that the GTX680(GK104) even got some increases(not much though, but still significant) above GTX670(also GK104) till about 3 months ago.

I believe that the GTX 780 is way overpriced given it is a mid-generation card with 20nm process is around the corner with what it will bring on the table from both companies, still k110 is old technology that crippled and shipped as a consumer product, and the 780's price should reflect that fact by being priced at $500 MAX, I would say that anybody with a working good enough gaming system should hold off until the end of the year to get a much much better new tech. For the same or less money!

The waiting game is never a good choice. While you might not to wrong outright, some people are not willing to wait MONTHS for pricing to MAYBE drop.

Hell then people start suggesting to wait for GTX8xx series... Do you see where I am going with this?

What you are saying is GENERALLY true, but it is much less true in this market condition, nVidia is playing a shameless marketing game with all that 700 series/Titan stuff, if that generation is the result of a new process then I would say that your logic is 100% but when nVidia is refreshing almost a year and a half old tech when a new 20nm process is few months away, then I am positive that in a few months time something that is MUCH better and is REALLY new will be out there in the market and will most probably be worth your money, plus you Will be almost certain that no distributive innovations will be out before sometime that will make you feel that you have made a bad investment, but this time around you are almost guaranteed to regret that $650+ investment you have made in only 6 months! for me i would pass especially when i have something that can play most of today's games good enough, in this case i will be waiting while enjoying and not waiting in pain :)

You really should try and use paragraphs. Easier to read. :)

Anyway. While I agree with the marketing scheming that is bull. Fermi lasted how many gens exactly again?

Precisely 3 generation! So stop complaining. Nvidia has no reason to compete "fairly" while they have so much more resource at hand.

I am typing in a mobile screen's text box of 1X2 Inches so i do not have much room to press enter for a new paragraph although i understand that it would be easier to read lol :)

I am not asking them to compete but i am also not asking anyone to buy their overpriced old generation (with a new suite) stuff, unless they are willing to price it for what it is worth and not price it as a $350 cheaper mini-Titan which was all a marketing gimmick from start, either they price it right or eat it for a few months until real competition kicks in again.

I think AMD is busy with their multi-billion dollars consoles deals, and nVidia is playing the Titan/780 game as a way to get back at them and make some money until AMD shifts focus to PC market again or wait for TSMC's 20nm process to be ready for mass productiom

Thank anyway... Appreciate.

I see where your coming from and you could be perfectly right. I just tend to not suggest waiting. Always end up regretting it.

no Thank you for having such a civil discussion, i really appreciate it too.

You also got a very valid point about waiting in general, i waited a month for Haswell and see what i got, it seems that i regretted it too ... lol, if it was not for the new socket i would have not waited for a day, i hope the price is not even $1 higher than ivy, because if it is i am not buying :)

All good. Waiting is an opinion, no point fighting over it.
