Just bought a TV, and hooked it up to an old laptop [Asus X83V] with an nVidia graphics card. Works fine, but after a couple of hours it invariably overheats and the computer shuts down. I was wondering if there is anything I can do other than cleaning it. Are any of the advanced setting on my card useful for this? Will it kill my computer if I keep letting it shut itself down after overheating? Will I ever be able to watch an entire baseball game?

Things don't stress GPU if resolution is not increased. You should set the connected display's resolution to your native screen resolution.
Alternatively you can turn off the display of your laptop when its connected to see if it makes any difference. Or buying a laptop cooler is a good idea. It keeps things much cooler.
