Black>Blue>Green
Red is off to the side and is best if you are going to be setting them up in RAID.

It depends on your usage if you want best performance, WD 500GB Black is you option
if you want to cut down power consumtion and your usage is for backup purpose, WD 500GB Green suits perfectly
and if you have a medium range data usage then go for WD 500GB Blue

I wouldn't waste money on WD Hard drives.
Have you looked into other brands?
Is it for external or internal use?
I use a mixture of Seatools Desktop, Seatools Dos, WD data lifeguard and HD Tune.

Just out of curiosity, why do you consider WD drives a waste of money? I have been using WD drives for years without any problems. I am currently using Seagate and Hitachi internal drives as well and all have performed well so far. The only drives I have ever had problems with are Seagate external drives.

Bad personal experiences in the work field, statistically they fail the most out of any drive that comes through my workshop, the company modifies external hard drives with USB3.0 Boards which dont allow much in the way of data recovery in a workshop environment.
Their Smartware locks are stupid.
WD used to be pioneers and innovative 30 years ago. They are sellouts and have no milestones to offer the storage game anymore.
Personal opinion of course.

I understand about personal experience and thank you for the response. I agree that WD is not what it once was. My bad experiences with HDDs have centered around large capacity Seagate external drives. I have a couple of smaller capacity Seagate drives that I have had for years and still use.
