Hello,

I just installed XP as a dual boot with windows 8 since I have some games not compatible with windows 8.

After installing the catalyst, I can't choose the highest resolution in "Age of Empires 2 : The conquerors". 1280x1024 is blanked out and only can choose upto 1024x768.

I have a radeon HD 5850 with a 24 inch monitor with max resolution 1600x900.

When I uninstall the ATI catalyst(or display driver), the game shows 1280x1024 and works fine but lags like anything and not playable. the mouse tightens up and doesnt move smooth even with max sensitivity.

I've tried 4-5 catalyst releases and no one seems to solve my problem. This is really frustating since I took a lot of time installing xp just to seethat the game isnt working fine

I've installed and tried these releases and none solved the issue :

13-4_xp32_dd_ccc_whql,12-8_xp32_dd_ccc,10-5_xp32_dd_ccc_enu,8-10_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_69561

I really hope you guys can solve this issue as it is driving me nuts.
Thank you.

Regards.

I think that you are not able to find the correct driver for your card.
I suggest you to go to this link and click "Automatically Detect and Install"

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

This is the official AMD website for Radeon drivers.
Once you have the right driver for your GPU, go to Video Adapters (In Device Manager) and make sure its listed as "This device is working properly" in status and also make sure it is the only device listed.

Then try to run the game.

Edit : Before downloading the driver, download Catalyst uninstall utility and uninstall any current Catalyst you have on your PC through it.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

I'm sure it is the correct catalyst version for my GPU since I installed the same way for windows 8 and its working flawlessly. I manually entered my specs in the driver selector of AMD and downloaded the latest as well as some previous versions there (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx)

Well, I have the HD edition but steam community for HD isnt that good. I'm more interested to play mostly in voobly and sometimes GameRanger as I have a lot of friends as well as good competition there.. and win 8 doesnt work great with voobly and mainly gameranger..

I have already tried installing xp on virtualBox and Hyper-V but they doesnt support full resolution gaming too..
