Yes, I am aware that there are many many posts about this difference.

Currently I found a GTX 660 Ti at a very low price (under $200), but the cheapest HD 7870 XT w/ Boost I can find is $245. Is the price/performance difference worth it for the HD 7870 XT?

Or is the extra $50 not worth it? I've read that the GTX 660Ti and the HD 7870 XT perform almost on par.

So tell me....

Edit: Maybe it'd help if you guys knew what I was upgrading from.. At the moment I have an HD 6870 in my PC.

Well truthfully I've never felt really "safe" overclocking anything in my computer. I just buy them and use them as they come. Also, I really don't care about the free games.

So taking that off the table, which would you say?

Go with the cheapest. In your case, the 660 ti. Just know that the 660 ti has a 192-bit memory bus as opposed to the 7870's 256-bit bus. While this may not mean much in single monitor, 1080p gaming, you will be better off with a 256-bit bus if you plan on going over that resolution and/or using more than two monitors. But with one monitor in 1080p or 1920x1200, they will give you similar performance. So, cheaper is always better. Also, look at what games they are giving away. I saw a recent AMD promo giving away 4 games: Crysis 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite. That is almost $150 worth of games if you don't already have them and they are 4 of the best new games out. If you don't have those games, I'd get the 7870.

I only have one monitor and the max res is 1920x1080. And like I said before, I just couldn't really be bothered for the games. I have 3/4 of those right now and I don't plan on getting FC3: BD anyway. Thank you for the input though.

Seemingly made available only to a few select vendors such as Sapphire, the 7870 XT does not use the same Pictairn core as the Radeon 7870. Instead, it uses a stripped down version of the Tahiti core, dubbed Tahiti LE. This is the core that is used on AMD’s 7950 and above series of cards .... Any 7950 core that is fabricated that cannot run at full spec gets binned and sold to Sapphire as Tahiti LE.

In other words it's kinda equivalent to the 560-448 from nVidia's last generation (just as the 560-448 was a broken 570, the 7870 XT is a broken 7950.... a means to dump higher end cards that don't meet spec. So I'd say avoid the XT for the same reasons most of us avoided the 560-448.

As for a 7950 / 660 Ti comparison, look here:

So you're saying that the GTX 660 Ti is better than the 7950? Or that the price/performance ratio is better?

660 > 7870 > 660ti > 7950 > 670 > 7970

This is the performance bracket. find your price and purchase preferably ASUS/EVGA/SAPPHIRE/GIGABYTE

Idk why im high today, the inequalities are the other way around lol, same idea.

Well my budget only permits me to buy either the HD 7870 or the GTX 660 Ti. I can't afford the 275-300 for 7950. Would you say that I should get the gtx 660 ti instead of the 7870 XT and save $50?

Looks like the 660 ti is your new GPU then. At under $200, it is the best GPU in that price bracket. Even the GTX 660 non-ti was around $250 when first released. Since price is your main concern, you are getting the best value and performance with the 660 ti.
