Hello tom's hardware.

Im building a new pc with the 4770k. Now im seeing alot of high-end motherboards use a double 8 pin cpu power input for just one processor. To give the cpu extra power "headroom".
The problem is that my PSU (Super Flower Aurora 700Watt) only has one 8 pin cpu power cable. I was wondering what the maximum power output of one 8 pin is? Im planning on overclocking my 4770k at about 4,5 ghz or more (with the Noctua NH-D14) so it will be using around 150Watt on full load.

If a double 8 pin is needed, is there a way to perhaps use a (double) molex to 8 pin converter?

Bottom line: Is a dual 8 pin cpu power input needed for a 4770k @ 4,5 ghz or more?

Even if your PSU only has a 4-pin CPU power connector, your 4770k would still run just find. 8-pin is only needed for heavy overclocking and dual 8-pin was to provide a back-up line I gues?

Conclusion : nope. One 8-pin connector is more than enough for your need.
