Hello,

I have been playing games on my computer and I am getting really bad FPS (World of Tanks, Arma 2, DayZ etc.). Here are my system specs:

Operating System
Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit

CPU
AMD FX-4100 @ 4.5Ghz

RAM
16.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 536MHz

Motherboard
ASRock 960GM-GS3 FX (CPUSocket)

Graphics
AMD Radeon HD 7770

Hard Drives
466GB Seagate ST3500312CS ATA Device (SATA)

Ok so i don't think it is anything to do with my specs as they are not too bad. I have done a full virus/malware/spyware scan, disk de-fragmentation, deleted temporary files, deleted unused programs, fixed registry issues, I only have 5 desktop icons, and yet my FPS is very low (about 10-20 on World of Tanks, 5-10 on DayZ, 15-25 on Arma 2.) So now I really need help! if anyone has any ideas that could be causing it, please help me out! The PC is only a few months old.

Thanks,
Billy

Im not sure if this will be helpful but i have some solutions i use when playing games like that.

1. make sure your using Gaming Power Plan. you can do this by going to your battery icon in your toolbar. Then selecting More Power Options. Then you have all of your options. If you don't have the Gaming Plan you can select High Performance.

2. Im pretty sure you all ready did this but make sure everything is on low or off. There should also be a option were it asks you if you want to use all cores.

3.if you have steam go to your library right click the game thats laggy and press property. Then go to Set Launch options and type "-noborder -novid" you can find more launch options on the internet.

4. if all fails... buy a new computer or change parts in your computer (if you have a laptop like me you cant change parts sadly :("

dont worry though im pretty sure theres more solutions out there.

This happened to me for a whole week. This is what worked for me. Try freeing some space in your computer. And go to control panel and uninstall programs you dont remember installing. Sometimes programs that mess with your computer can get past scans and firewall.

Have you tried changing the eye candy to medium or low in the games to see if there is a difference? Have you checked Catalyst to make sure you're not forcing high quality settings over the game's settings (i.e. it should be set to "let the application decide" or some such)?

Yeah, i have turned the settings down to low, still get about the same FPS as on high, all settings on AMD Catalyst are on let application decide.

No fps change after changing settings to low indicates a CPU bottleneck. The 4100's are terrible gaming processors, and need to be overclocked as much as possible in order to do decently at gaming. Reason being that the single threaded performance is so low, that unless a game can utilize 4 cores, performance is gonna be bad.

Also, what are your CPU and GPU temps under load? Like another person said, look into that RAM timing as well...the lowest DDR3 I've seem is 1066.

My friend has the same processor and gets much better FPS at these games.
CPU gets to about 60 at load and GPU about 50 so not overheating and what speed would you say would make the CPU good? And what can i use to overclock it, as i brought already pverclocked. And i'm fairly sure the RAM speed is correct, according to speccy.

Ok so, i got good FPS on single player games (Arma 2 on high settings, Just Cause 2 on Maximum) can't say the exact fps but i would guess around 50-60, very play-able. I guess that narrows it down a bit?

Ok, i have just confirmed the problem is to do with the internet. I played a World of Tanks tutorial, which is obviously single player, on max setting and got great FPS! So what is the issue with the internet?

I'm not sure what is wrong. You CAN get good ping and still have bad FPS. But since you get good FPS on stand alone games and bad on online then it sounds it isn't a computer spec problem. Maybe start a new thread to get some fresh eyes looking at the problem.

Got roommates that suck up bandwidth? Anyways, I have to boogie but start a new thread with what you have learned and tried.

Hopefully good FPS, the Prisoner...
